Wedding Vows Obey ,Once upon a time, thankfully not ours, women were considered property. Marriage contracts were usually a financial transaction. A large amount of negotiation would take place before a marriage to settle on the price of the bride, with the poor woman's pawn everything. Did not have many options for those who are married. "Love is for the poor because they do not care if they die of hunger, because they are" was the belief.
When they were led to the altar, seems to be so docile. The truth is that some were drugged usually so as not to escape. The practice of being veiled was adopted as a way for the groom not see the tears of the bride. Women have to say out loud that they would love, honor and obey the man who was now her husband and that was it.
With the liberation of women, this is no longer the case. The ladies can choose their partners, whether for profit or for love, maybe even two. They are considered equal to men who marry and, as such, the votes have been changed to love, honor and cherish.
